Visa-Free Reach Uplift

Vanuatu's ~88 visa-free or visa-on-arrival destinations — including Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia and most of the Caribbean and Pacific — materially expand mobility for holders of most African passports. UK and Schengen access currently requires a visa. Vanuatu Citizens have 98%+ Schengen visa approval rate. Conversational FAQ

Questions our Africa clients ask most.

Is dual citizenship recognised by African countries such as Nigeria, South Africa, Kenya and Ghana?

+

Most major Anglophone African states — including Nigeria, South Africa, Kenya, Ghana, Uganda and Sierra Leone — permit dual citizenship, sometimes subject to notification. Francophone states vary. Vanuatu permits dual nationality without restriction; we recommend confirming home-state notification requirements with local counsel.

How is source of funds documented for African business income?

+

The Vanuatu FIU accepts audited African company accounts, JSE / NSE / NGX / GSE brokerage statements, and real-estate sale records, provided the paper trail is complete. We work with established South African, Nigerian and Kenyan audit and legal partners to assemble the dossier to FIU standard.

Can African applicants complete biometrics without long-haul travel?

+

Yes. Biometrics are captured in Dubai, Hong Kong or via mobile consul — a single short-haul trip from most major African hubs (Johannesburg, Lagos, Nairobi, Cairo, Accra) is sufficient. The Vanuatu passport is then couriered to your nominated African address by secure diplomatic-grade carrier.

How materially does Vanuatu's visa-free reach improve on the Nigerian, South African or Kenyan passport?

+

Vanuatu's approximately 88 visa-free or visa-on-arrival destinations (Henley Passport Index) compare to roughly 46 for Nigeria, 106 for South Africa and 73 for Kenya. The uplift is most material for Nigerian, Ghanaian and Egyptian principals — particularly for Asia-Pacific corridors (Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Indonesia) where most African passports require pre-arranged visas. UK and Schengen access currently requires a visa. Vanuatu Citizens have 98%+ Schengen visa approval rate. Does Nigeria, South Africa or Kenya require notification when a citizen acquires a foreign passport?

+

Nigeria permits dual citizenship without notification under Section 28 of the 1999 Constitution. South Africa requires citizens over 18 to apply for written retention of citizenship under Section 6(1)(a) of the Citizenship Act before voluntarily acquiring another nationality — otherwise citizenship is automatically lost. Kenya permits dual citizenship without notification under the 2010 Constitution. Local counsel coordination is essential for South African nationals in particular.

How is Naira, Rand or Shilling-denominated wealth handled given currency controls?

+

The Vanuatu FIU is denomination-agnostic — audited accounts in NGN, ZAR, KES, GHS or EGP are accepted with USD reference values appended. Where home-currency capital controls (Nigerian CBN, Egyptian FX restrictions) constrain outward remittance of the program fee, we coordinate with established correspondent-banking partners to structure the contribution payment lawfully through compliant channels.

Is the program suitable for African principals whose wealth derives from extractive industries?

+

Yes, subject to enhanced due diligence. Documented income from listed-mining, oil-and-gas service contracting, agriculture and natural-resource trading is regularly accepted when supported by audited accounts, contract documentation and clean EITI / Publish What You Pay alignment where applicable. Files involving PEP exposure or unresolved EITI / anti-corruption matters are pre-screened privately before any application is submitted.

How does Vanuatu citizenship interact with AfCFTA business-mobility frameworks?

+

AfCFTA's free-movement-of-persons protocol is being implemented gradually and applies to African Union member-state nationals. Vanuatu citizenship does not substitute for AU nationality and does not unlock AfCFTA business-mobility rights. It operates as an extra-African mobility instrument — particularly for Asia-Pacific, Commonwealth and Caribbean corridors outside the AfCFTA scope.

Can Francophone-African nationals (Senegalese, Ivorian, Cameroonian) apply on standard terms?

+

Yes. Vanuatu makes no distinction between Anglophone and Francophone African nationals. Documents in French are accepted with certified English translations from a sworn translator. Several Francophone-African states are more restrictive on dual citizenship than the Anglophone bloc; we recommend confirming the home-state position with local counsel — Senegal, Côte d'Ivoire and Cameroon currently permit dual citizenship, while a small number of Francophone states still require renunciation.

Is Vanuatu citizenship recognised for diaspora-banking and remittance compliance in the EU and US?

+

Yes. As a sovereign Commonwealth state, Vanuatu nationality is fully recognised by EU and US correspondent banks for KYC purposes. Diaspora principals frequently use the Vanuatu passport as a second KYC identity at Tier-1 European and American banks alongside their African passport, which can materially reduce friction in remittance and trade-finance flows back to the continent.
